Volleyball earns 3-1 win over UNE

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Caitlin Burchill (Walpole, Mass.) had 12 kills, 24 defensive digs, and three aces as the Colby College volleyball team avenged a loss to University of New England from last year with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules, who improve to 4-4 overall, won by set scores of 25-22, 25-14, 17-25, 25-22.

Heather Arvidson (Andover, Mass.) and Megan Conroy (San Francisco, Calif.) both had 11 kills for Colby. Arvidson also had three blocks and a pair of aces, while Conroy had 11 digs and three aces. Emily Ten Eyck (Minnetrista, Minn.) had 32 assists and eight digs, Emily Varni (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) added 13 digs and four aces, Anne Sewall (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished with seven kills and three blocks, and Clare Reich played three games and had 12 digs.

University of New England (3-5), which took a 3-0 win over the Mules last year, received 13 kills and three blocks from Kristen Edwards (Laconia, N.H.). Claire Varner (Breckenridge, Mich.) had eight kills and five digs, Ellen Choinski (Saunderstown, R.I.) added 17 assists and 15 digs, Kayla Sampson (Cumberland, Maine) had 12 digs, and Emily Winters (Kingston, Ontario) finished with 11 assists and three aces.
