Volleyball drops matches at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --- The Colby College volleyball team started the MIT Invitational off Friday night with setbacks to Vassar College and Springfield College.

The Mules (4-6) fell 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 23-25, 25-14) to Vassar in the opening match of the night and then lost 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-8) to Springfield in the nightcap. Colby will play Wellesley College in the first of two matches Saturday at 10 a.m. The Mules then play either Endicott College or Vassar in the second match at 2 p.m.

Caitlin Burchill had 10 kills and 11 digs for Colby in the Vassar match. Emily Varni added four kills and 11 digs, while Emily Ten Eyck finished with 23 assists, nine digs, and two blocks. Mackie Sewall, Heather Arvidson, and Larissa Levine chipped in with five kills apiece. Clare Reich led in digs with 22.

Reich added 11 digs and Arvidson had four kills in the match with Springfield. Burchill had eight digs, Varni finished with seven digs, and Ten Eyck had nine assists.
