Volleyball drops two matches at invite

LEWISTON, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team opened the Bates College Invitational with setbacks to Rivier College and Springfield College on Friday night.

The Mules (7-9) fell 30-24, 30-23, 30-22 to Rivier in the first match and then lost 30-27, 33-31, 30-21 to Springfield. Colby will play Coast Guard at 10 a.m. Saturday and then take on UMass-Dartmouth later in the day at 3 p.m.

Meredith Lawler had 13 kills and Jessie Prentice had 15 defensive digs for the Mules in the Springfield match. Heather Arvidson added 10 kills and four blocks, Carlie Minichino had 10 digs, and Jenny Lawrence finished with 20 assists.

In the Rivier match, Prentice had 24 digs to lead the Mules. Lawrence added 22 assists and 15 digs, Heather Arvidson finished with nine kills, Lawler had seven kills, and Minichino had 12 digs.
