Volleyball team wins, loses at Bates invite

LEWISTON, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday at the Bates College Invitational by taking a 3-0 win over University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and a 3-1 loss to Coast Guard.

Jenny Lawrence had 31 assists and seven defensive digs in the 30-15, 30-25, 30-25 win against UMass-Dartmouth. Meredith Lawler added 11 kills, Larissa Levine finished with eight kills and six blocks, Jessie Prentice had 10 digs and seven kills, Heather Arvidson smacked seven kills and had four blocks, and Cassie Sancartier had three service aces and seven digs.

Lawler led the way with 18 kills in a 30-23, 30-22, 24-30, 30-24 setback to Coast Guard, which was the only team to go 4-0 in the tourney. Arvidson had 11 kills, Levine had eight kills and four blocks, Clare Reich had 16 digs, Lawrence finished with 40 assists and 14 digs, and Sancartier had 14 digs.
