Kirby leads volleyball team to 4-0 weekend

LEWISTON, Maine ---- Colby College libero Kendall Kirby helped the Mules to a 4-0 record with her serving and defensive work to take Most Outstanding Player honors at the Bates Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.

The Mules (10-6) took a 3-2 come-from-behind win over University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth by scores of 30-26, 29-31, 28-30, 30-25, 15-3 and a 3-1 victory over University of Southern Maine with scores of 30-9, 27-30, 30-7, 30-18.

Kirby, who set a Colby record with 14 service aces in a win against Worcester State on Friday night, was joined on the all-tournament team by Mule setter Jenny Lawrence.

Lawrence had 32 assists and eight aces in the win against Mass-Dartmouth. Meredith Lawler finished with 14 kills, five blocks and four aces. Kirby had 20 digs and six aces.

Lawler had 14 kills and five blocks in the win over Southern Maine. Julie Hike added nine kills, Cassie Sancartier finished with eight kills, Lawrence had 23 assists and 11 digs, Kirby had 10 digs and Larissa Levine had four blocks for Colby.
