FARMINGTON, Maine --- Jil Vaughan scored a team-high 18 points and Alison Cappelloni moved into a tie for 11th place on Colby College's all-time scoring list as the Mules cruised to an easy 88-45 non-conference win over University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday night. Vaughan, a 6-foot-3 forward, shot 7-for-11 from the field and was 4-of-5 from the foul line to pace the Mules, who improve to 14-2 overall. First-year guard Diana Manduca finished with 14 points, including 6-for-6 from the foul line, and dished five assists for Colby. "Jil Vaughan was outstanding tonight. She did a great job on both ends of the floor, but played with such confidence and purpose on the offensive end in particular," Colby head coach Lori Gear McBride said. "Her size and skill around the basket are unique at this level and tough to counter." Colby had all nine players score at least five points. Samantha Allen finished with 12 points and was 4-for-7 from 3-point range, Julianne Kowalski had nine points, and Aarika Ritchie had eight points and five assists. The Mules shot a blazing 10-for-15 (67 percent) from 3-point range and the team was 56 percent from the field. Colby had 24 assists on its 33 made field goals and had a 38-24 rebounding advantage over UMF (6-8). The Mules came into the game ranked third in the country in rebound margin at plus-12.3 per game (now 12.4) and Colby was tied for third in 3-point field goal percentage at 40 percent (now 42). "You don't shoot as well as we did from 3-point range without great ball movement and unselfish play," Gear McBride said. "Our post players, in particular, did a near-perfect job of kicking the ball back out to the guards in great position and made smart decisions with the basketball." "The team did a great job of focusing tonight and being ready from the opening tip," Gear McBride said. "Everyone was involved in the victory and did a great job. This was a team victory in the truest sense of the word."
