Women's basketball earns win over Beavers

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Katie McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) had her third straight double-double game with 21 points and 15 rebounds as the Colby College women's basketball team took a 77-68 non-conference win over University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.) added 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots for the Mules (5-11). Karlyn Adler (Rye Brook, N.Y.) nailed four 3-point field goals on the way to 16 points and seven assists, while Julianne Kowalski (Montville, N.J.) scored 10 points and had six rebounds. Beth Bartley (Greenville, Maine) came off the bench and added six rebounds and three blocked shots.

Colby led 67-47 with 9:23 left in the game, but the Beavers (8-10) battled back and cut the lead to 73-68 when Elizabeth Bell (Waterville, Maine) hit a lay-up with 51 seconds remaining. The Mules hit 4-for-4 from the foul line from that point to seal the victory.

The game was close for most of the first half until a late run by Colby. The Mules led 29-27 with 3:30 remaining to intermission, but used a 13-2 run to go up 42-29 at the break.

Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, Maine) led all scorers with 27 points and seven rebounds for UMF. Erin Porter (Bangor, Maine) added 13 points, while Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) had 11 points and six rebounds. Amanda Byrne (Winslow, Maine) had seven points and seven assists.
