Women's basketball loses in opener

BABSON PARK, Mass. --- The Colby College women's basketball team had a big rebounding edge and a nice night from Lauren Duval, but Babson College managed to take a 61-54 victory in the first day of the Babson College/Irving Oil Invitational on Saturday night.

Caitlin Boulier had 26 points, including a 10-for-12 effort from the foul line, and added eight rebounds for Babson (1-0).

Duval had a collegiate-high 20 points and added nine rebounds for Colby (0-1). She shot 8-for-16 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line.

Babson had a 27-25 lead at halftime and most of the shooting statistics were similar except from the foul line. Babson had a 12-5 edge in made free throws, while Colby had a 51-40 margin in rebounds.

Kathleen Nicholson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for the Mules. First-year players Bethany Bartley (5 points, 6 rebounds) and Alison Cappelloni (4 points, 9 rebounds) both contributed in their Colby debuts.

Colby will play in the consolation game Sunday at 1 p.m. against either Geneseo State or Bates College.
