WATERVILLE, Maine --- With a big game at home against Trinity College on Saturday looming, the Colby College women's basketball team fell 71-44 to Amherst College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Stephanie Reiff (Hinsdale, Ill.) had 16 points and six assists while teammate Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, N.Y.) had a game-high 18 points for Amherst.

Colby fell to 5-12 and 1-4 in the league with Trinity coming to Waterville for a game at 3 p.m. Saturday. A Colby win would be huge in the efforts to secure a NESCAC playoff bid.

Colby, which led 8-2 early in the game, trailed 56-42 with 7:11 left in the game. However, the Jeffs used a 13-0 run to pull away for good.

Katie McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Mules. Meredith Aronson (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) also had 11 points, while Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.) added seven points.
