Women's basketball gets seventh seed

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- The Colby College women’s basketball team picked up the seventh seed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tourney after Wesleyan University took a 66-55 win over the Mules on Saturday.

The seventh-seeded Mules (13-10 overall, 4-5 NESCAC) will play at second-seeded Amherst College in a league quarterfinal game next Saturday at 4 p.m. The two teams also met last year in a quarterfinal game.

Sam Allen had 17 points and seven rebounds for Colby, which led 38-29 at halftime. Alison Cappelloni finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots, and three steals. Julianne Kowalski had eight points, while Aarika Ritchie added seven points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Wesleyan (12-10, 4-5) received 29 points from Ali Fourney.

The Mules led by as much as 13 points in the opening half, but the Cardinals managed to make it a 38-29 Mule lead at the break. Wesleyan scored the first 12 points of the second half to take a 41-38 lead.

In the second half, Colby tied the game at 53-53 with 4:08 to play. However, the Cardinals went on a 13-2 run to end the game.
