Women's basketball drops games to Bates

LEWISTON, Maine --- Despite a collegiate-high 29 points from Colby College's Alison Cappelloni, Bates College had four players in double figures to take a 77-64 win over the Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.

Colby falls to 8-14 overall and 2-6 in NESCAC play, while Bates moves to 14-9 and 4-4 in league play. The Mules have already clinched the eighth and final playoff spot in the upcoming conference playoffs. Colby will play at Tufts University at 3 p.m. Saturday. Tufts, Bowdoin College, and Amherst College are all tied for first place in the conference with 6-2 records heading into the final regular season game. Colby will play the squad that comes out on top among those three teams in a NESCAC quarterfinal game next Saturday.

Cappelloni had 16 points in the first half as the Mules led 22-17 at one point. Bates, though, went on a 25-7 run to go up 42-29 at halftime. Colby could not closer than eight points in the second half.

Karlyn Adler had 12 points, five assists, and three steals for Colby. Katie McCabe added eight points and four rebounds and went over 700 career rebounds in the game. Julianne Kowalski finished with seven points.

Meg Coffin had 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for Bates.
