PRESQUE ISLE, Maine --- Alison Cappelloni broke the Colby College women's basketball team record for made 3-point shots in a season as the Mules pulled out a 65-53 victory over University of Maine at Presque Isle in non-conference play Tuesday night.
The Mules are 9-15 heading into Saturday's 2 p.m. New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game at top-seeded Amherst College. The Mules earned the eighth seed in the tourney.
Cappelloni finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mules. She now has 45 3-point shots this season to break the old record of 43 set by Kim Condon '01 during the 1997-98 season.
UMPI (6-13) led 32-23 at halftime and was up 49-47 when Cappelloni hit a 3-point shot for a 50-49 lead. With the Mules up 52-50, Karlyn Adler hit a jumper in the lane and a 3-point shot for a 57-50 margin with 4:17 to play. Colby had an 18-4 run over the final 5:30 to put the game away.
Meredith Aronson added 15 points for the Mules, while Katie McCabe chipped in 12 points and 14 rebounds.
