AMHERST, Mass. --- The Colby College women’s basketball team finished the season at 13-12 after falling 77-36 to second-seeded Amherst College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Saturday.

The seventh-seeded Mules lost a tough 65-64 battle at Amherst during the regular season, but the Lord Jeffs came out strong in the playoff game. Amherst led 11-0 early in the contest only to see the Mules chip away at the lead and trail just 21-13 when Julianne Kowalski scored inside with 12:37 to halftime. The Lord Jeffs, though, went on a 24-3 run after that and eventually took a 53-20 lead at halftime.

Kowalski finished with a team-high nine points and now has 470 points and 319 rebounds in two years at Colby. Alison Cappelloni and Aarika Ritchie both had eight points for the Mules. Cappelloni, a junior, has 868 points and 457 rebounds heading into her senior year next season.

Colby did shoot 18-for-21 from the foul line, including a 6-for-6 effort from Ritchie. The Mules shot an impressive .748 from the foul line as a team this season and led the NESCAC at the start of the week in team free throw shooting.

Jaclyn Daigneault led Amherst, ranked fifth nationally, with 22 points and nine rebounds.
