BRUNSWICK, Maine --- The Colby College women's basketball team clinched a New England Small College Athletic Conference playoff spot despite falling 62-48 to Bowdoin College in league play Saturday night.

The Mules (7-13, 2-5 NESCAC) clinched the playoff spot after Trinity College took a 69-61 win against Connecticut College. Trinity is 1-7 in the conference with just one league game remaining, while Connecticut College fell to 0-7 in league play. The best that both teams can do is a 2-7 record in league play, but Colby holds the tie-breaker advantage over both teams because of head-to-head wins.

Colby gave Bowdoin (17-5, 6-1) all it could handle for most of the game. The Mules only trailed 31-25 at halftime and held a 38-37 lead when Karlyn Adler nailed a jumper with 14:08 to go. However, Bowdoin went on a 10-0 run from that point to keep the lead for good. Colby got as close as 49-44 with 4:25 remaining on a basket by Katie McCabe.

Adler led Colby with 12 points, while McCabe had seven points and eight rebounds to go along with three blocked shots. Alison Cappelloni finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

Jill Anelauskas paced the Polar Bears with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
