WAYNE, N.J. --- The Colby College women's basketball team will have to accept another tough second round loss in the NCAA Division III Tournament after falling 58-53 at William Paterson University on Saturday night.

The Mules, who finish the season at 22-6, made the NCAA tourney for the first time in program history last year before falling in overtime to Babson College in a second round game. The Mules will remember this game as just as tough.

Colby had a 31-27 halftime lead and led a number of times in the second half, including their final lead of 53-52 when Aarika Ritchie hit a jumper with 4:23 to play. That would be the final points of the game for the Mules.

William Paterson closed the game with a 6-0 scoring run, but managed just one field goal during that time. Tatiana Javis scored with 4:03 to play and neither team managed a point for nearly three minutes until Brianna Lucas hit two free throws with 1:07 to play for a 56-53 lead. Lucas added two more foul shots with 11 seconds to play.

Lucas was the only William Paterson player in double figures with a game-high 22 points. Floriana Borova added nine points and 10 rebounds, while April Smith chipped in six points and seven boards.

Jules Kowalski, playing in her final game as a Mule, led the way with 16 points and four steals before fouling out of the contest. Kowalski finished her career with 1,059 points and 749 rebounds.

Rachael Mack finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ritchie had 13 points and six assists. Mack, who is just a junior, surpassed 900 career points and heads into her senior season next year with 907 points and 611 rebounds. Ritchie will have 720 points and 246 assists heading into her final season next year.
