WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College first-year forward Alison Cappelloni (Lincoln-Sudbury/Sudbury, Mass.), who averaged 18.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in three games last week, was named the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 14.
Cappelloni started the week with collegiate-highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 75-66 loss at Bates College last Tuesday. She added 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists in a 77-66 setback to Middlebury College on Friday and then closed the week with 19 points, six rebounds and pair of blocked shots in a 76-55 defeat to Williams College.
Cappelloni leads the Mules in blocked shots (15 total), 3-point field goal percentage (.333, 14-for-42) and defensive rebounds (61). She is second on the team in rebounding (6.3), free throw percentage (.769, 20-for-26) and is tied for second in scoring (9.6).
After starting the season coming off the bench, Cappelloni earned a starting job in the ninth game of the season. She has averaged 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds over the past seven games.
In the latest New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) statistics, Cappelloni ranks sixth in the league in blocked shots per game (1.25), tied for eighth in 3-point field goal percentage and 14th in rebounding.
Cappelloni is fifth among MWBCA statistical leaders in blocked shots per game, eighth in 3-point field goal percentage and 12th in rebounding.
Colby (2-10) plays host to Gordon College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Mules head back into league play this Friday at Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m.
