Dewdney, Rigby win races for Colby women

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine --- Berol Dewdney and Allison Rigby each won races for the Colby College women's cross country team at the Wave Race at Pineland Farms on Saturday in a competition hosted by Bates College.

Dewdney won the women's senior/sophomore race with a time of 17 minute, 42 seconds over the 2.87-mile course. Amy Tortorello also was clocked at 17:42 and finished in second place and Layne Schwab took third in 17:43 for the Mules. Senior co-captain Emma Linhard placed fourth in 17:46, Claire Dunn took sixth in 18:06, Brittany Colford had a 18:24 for seventh, and Claire Cannon took ninth in 18:46.

The Colby women took a 39-16 win (high score wins) in the senior/sophomore race and captured a 35-20 win in the junior/first-year event. Rigby had a 17:34 to win the junior/first-year race in her first collegiate competition. Colby classmates Kate Connolly, who took second in 17:37, and third place finisher Sophie Weaver (18:02) also had big debuts. Emily Nadel was sixth for the Mules in 18:20, Abby Cheruiyot took eighth with a 18:37, Robyn St. Laurent finished ninth in 18:39, and Sarah Barrese made the top 10 by placing 10^th in 18:43.

In the combined score with the men's races, Colby won the overall battle with Bates with a 113-106 victory.
