HAMILTON, N.Y. --- The Colby College women's hockey team opened up a 4-0 lead in the third period and then hung on for a 4-2 win against Hamilton College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday.
After a scoreless opening period, Becky Julian got the Mules going with a goal at 17:29 of the second period off assists from Heather Nickerson and Kaitlyn Conway. The Mules (4-6-3) made it 2-0 when Marissa Mullane got her first goal of the season on an unassisted tally 4:46 into the third period. The final four minutes of the game had four goals. Colette Finley got the eventual game-winning goal at 16:18 off assists from Lauren Goethals and Conway. Amanda Comeau added what turned out to be an insurance goal at 17:06 off passes from Julian and Colette Finley. After two straight penalties gave Hamilton a two-person advantage, the Continentals struck quickly with power play goals by Kerry Leonard at 18:25 and Kate Marek just 15 seconds later at 18:40. Colby goalie Lacey Brown stopped 25 shots, while Hamilton keeper Kathryn Manning made just 13 stops.
