WATERVILLE, Maine --- After Colby College had scored four straight goals to take a 5-3 margin, Connecticut College scored two goals in the final two minutes of regulation as the two teams skated to a 5-5 overtime tie in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's hockey Saturday at Alfond Rink.
The Mules (2-7-5 overall) broke a 3-3 tie after two periods with two more goals in the third period. Stephanie Scarpato (Osterville, Mass.) scored unassisted just 1:04 into the third period and then teammate Meghan Tedoldi (Needham, Mass.) gave Colby a 5-3 lead with a power play goal with just 3:08 to play.
The Connecticut College (3-10-2) comeback started when Brigid O'Gorman (Eden, N.Y.) tallied with two minutes to play. The Camels never had to pull the goalie for the extra attacker after Ashleigh Kowtoniuk (Johnstown, Pa.) tied it at 5-5 just 31 seconds later.
The Mules scored the lone goal of the first period from Tasha Rivard at 9:23. The next three goals from the Camels came in a span of 10 minutes of the second period. Kowtoniuk tallied unassisted at 4:32, Ariel DiPasquale (Whitestone, N.Y.) made it 2-1 at 6:59 on the power play, and Kirsten Manville (Fairfax, Va.) scored at 14:09.
Colby went on a 4-0 scoring run after Manville's goal. Marissa Simmons (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) made it 3-3 after two periods with two straight goals. She scored at 15:15 – less than a minute after Manville's goal – and then scored off the power play at 16:28.
Colby goalie Loni Pisani (Kanata, Ontario) and Camel keeper Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) both had 23 saves.
