WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bowdoin College broke a 1-1 tie after two periods with three goals in the opening 12:17 of the third period to pull away for a 4-1 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's hockey Tuesday night at Alfond Rink.
Bowdoin improves to 7-6-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference, while the Mules fall to 2-8-5 and 0-5-3 in the league.
Colby goalie Loni Pisani (Kanata, Ontario) made 12 saves in the first period and the Mules took a 1-0 lead at the first intermission. Kaitlyn Conway (Andover, Mass.) scored 3:58 into the game off assists from first-year players Kathy Shei (Iverness, Ill.) and Sydney Campbell (Mitchell, Ontario).
The Polar Bears tied the game at 12:32 of the second period on the power play. Shana Natelson (Taos, N.M.) notched her second goal of the season off passes from Kayte Holtz (New Berlin, Wis.) and Dominique Lozzi (Reading, Mass.). Pisani, though, added 11 more saves in the second period and finished the game with 29 stops.
Bowdoin needed just 26 seconds to score in the third period
when Holtz got her seventh goal of the season for the game-winning tally.
Shelagh Merrill (Lowell, Mass.) scored two insurance goals for the Polar Bears. The first was unassisted at 9:16 and then Jay Greene (Baltimore, Md.) set up the second at 12:17 on the power play. Bowdoin went 2-for-4 with the extra player.
