SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Colby College women's hockey team gave sixth-ranked Elmira College all it could handle for two periods before losing 7-4 in the championship game of the Saint Michael's Tournament on Saturday.
Junior forward Becky Julian made the all-tournament team for Colby (3-4-2) after scoring three goals and dishing an assist. First-year player Stephanie Scarpato added the other goal and had two assists. Senior tri-captain Lauren Goethals also made the all-tournament team for the Mules. Julian scored a shorthanded goal off an assist from Scarpato at 15:02 of the first period to give Colby a 1-0 lead. Elmira did tie the game after one period with a score at 18:09. Julian put the Mules up again just 1:54 into the second period on an unassisted goal. Elmira scored the next two goals at 10:21 and 11:24, but Colby battled back and went ahead 4-3 after two periods on goals by Scarpato and Julian. The two Colby players assisted on each other's goals. Elmira tied the game at four just 1:31 into the final period and then added three goals from 12:37 to 16:10. Lacey Brown made 35 saves in goal for the Mules.
