AMHERST, Mass. --- Amherst College scored the final four goals of the game on the way to a 4-1 season-opening victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's hockey Friday night.
Colby (0-1) struck first at 4:10 of the first period when Amanda Comeau scored off assists from Becky Julian and Laura Anning.
Amherst (1-0) took control after that goal and had a 39-13 shot advantage. Colby goalie Genevieve Triganne kep the Mules in the game with 35 saves. Meanwhile, Amherst first-year goaltender Krysten Elek earned her first collegiate victory with 12 stops.
The Mules took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but Amherst's Kristen Dier tallied six minutes into play to tie the contest. Tarasai Karega scored less than three minutes later for the eventual game-winning goal.
The Jeffs added two more goals in the third period off the sticks of Natanya Khazzam and Kate Dennet.
Colby will play at Connecticut College at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
