WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- The Colby College women's hockey team had three players score their first goals of the season and first-year goaltender Brianne Wheeler made 29 saves as the Mules took a 4-1 win over Williams College in NESCAC play Sunday.
Colby stands at 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while Williams sits at 1-3 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Annie Papadellis scored her first collegiate goal just 2:08 into the first period. Meghan Tedoldi picked up a loose puck in the low corner of the Ephs' defensive zone and dished a pass to Papadellis, who fired a shot at Williams first-year goalie Rachel Nguyen. The puck eked through Nguyen's legs and into the net.
Colby's special teams accounted for the next three goals, including the first from Liz Osgood off the power play at 16:09 of the second period for a 2-0 lead. Stephanie Scarpato and Caroline Chessare had assists on the play.
Ally Kane scored on another power play goal just 39 seconds into the third period on a blast from the point. Scarpato and Tedoldi had assists for Colby. Scarpato is up to 48 assists for her career and has 83 career points.
Colby made it 4-0 when Tasha Rivard scored on a shorthanded tally at 3:48 of the third. She capitalized on a Williams turnover deep inside the Ephs' zone. Rivard controlled the puck and flicked a shot over goalkeeper Catherine Tremble's shoulder for the goal.
Gabrielle Vukasin broke up Wheeler's shutout at 5:32 of the period, but Williams could not get another shot past Colby's first-year goalie. Wheeler has a fine .952 save percentage and a 1.52 goals against average in four starts.
Colby will play at home against Connecticut College in a conference game this Friday at 7 p.m.
