BRUNSWICK, Maine --- Colby College goalie Lacey Brown had 41 saves to lift the Mules to a 3-3 overtime tie with Bowdoin College in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's hockey Saturday at Dayton Arena.
The Mules improve to 2-2-2 this season, while Bowdoin falls to 0-3-1. Colby has a 1-0-3 record over Bowdoin in the last four meetings.
Colby skated out to a two-goal lead in the first 13 minutes of Saturday's game. Laura Anning put the Mules on the board first off assists from Becky Julian and Kaitlyn Conway at 8:26.
About four minutes later, Stephanie Scarpato collected a loose puck at her own blue line and broke in alone on Keebler, moving the Bowdoin goalie out of position before backhanding a chance into the goal at 12:42. Amanda Comeau and Liz Osgood were credited with assists.
The Polar Bears got one back on the power play before the first intermission as Shana Natelson rifled a shot from the left circle that sailed wide of the net, hit the boards, and came to the waiting stick of Kristen Cameron on the doorstep for the goal.
The Mules wasted little time regaining their two-goal lead, scoring just nine seconds into the second period as Anning notched her second tally of the contest with a wrist shot to beat Keebler. Julian picked up her second assist of the game.
Bowdoin trimmed the lead to a single goal at the 13-minute mark of the second stanza, as Lindsay McNamara buried a one-timer pass from Katie Coyne to make to 3-2. The score remained the same until the third period, when McNamara collected a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated in alone on Brown and netted the game-tying tally at 9:32.
