BIDDEFORD, Maine --- Meg Edwards tied the game for Colby College with just 2:45 left in regulation, but University of New England's Maggie Mahoney got the game-winning goal with just 56 seconds left to pull out a 2-1 non-conference win Tuesday night.

Colby (0-1-1 overall) heads to Wesleyan University for an 11 a.m. New England Small College Athletic Conference game Saturday.

The two teams went scoreless in the first half as UNE (4-0) had a 7-3 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes. The Nor'easters went ahead just 4:29 into the second half when Katie Caron lobbed a shot from about 30 yards out hit the hand of Colby goalkeeper Loni Pisani and trickled into the net.

Edwards had a shot from the left side that went into the right corner of the net to make it 1-1. Katherine McCarrick was credited with her first collegiate assist on the play.

UNE midfielder Ali Trafton had the assist on Mahoney's late goal. Trafton found Mahoney with a low pass from the right corner that Mahoney collected and pushed past a diving Pisani.

Pisani, the NESCAC Co-Player of the Week for last week, had five saves. Leigh Engel stopped two shots for UNE.
