FARMINGTON, Maine --- Sam Merriweather scored her first two collegiate goals and twin sister Alex Merriweather added her first collegiate goal and assist as the Colby College women's soccer team got the offense going in a 6-0 non-conference win over University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday.
Katie Palano and Leah Turino also had their first collegiate goals for Colby (1-2-1 overall). Julie Denison added the other goal for the Mules, who play host to Williams College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Denison tallied just 4:15 into the game off an assist from Turino, while Sam Merriweather closed out the first half scoring at 31:26 from Emily Moos.
The second half was all Colby as Turino scored unassisted just 1:01 into the half. Palano tallied about 13 minutes later from Meghan Guay for a commanding 4-0 lead. The Merriweather sisters each scored in the final seven minutes to close out the scoring. Kate Pistel had her first collegiate assist on the fifth goal by Alex Merriweather.
Loni Pisani stopped three shots for the Colby shutout.
