CASTINE, Maine --- Katherine McCarrick, Marissa Simmons, and Kate Laxson all scored their first collegiate goals as the Colby College women's soccer team pounded 35 shots on goal in a 5-0 non-conference win over Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday night.
The Mules (2-3-1) led 4-0 at halftime and had advantages of 35-1 in shots and 9-0 in corner kicks. Maine Maritime fell to 5-4 overall.
McCarrick scored first just 1:56 into the game off Mari Crommett's second assist of the season. McCarrick ripped a shot from about 20 yards out after receiving the pass from Crommett.
Leah Turino was credited with assists on the next two goals for the Mules, who play at Middlebury College at 11 a.m. Saturday. Nikki Pickering got her fifth career goal at 16:24 on a cross from Turino and then Simmons got her first goal at 30:26 on a long cross. Turino is the leading scorer on the Mules with one goal and three assists for five points.
Kate Laxson made it 4-0 at the break when she scored off a corner kick with just 2:15 to halftime. A ball deflected to her and she scored into the right corner of the net from just inside the 18-yard line.
Emily Moos closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 78:59.
Loni Pisani made one save in goal for Colby to earn her second shutout of the season and the eighth of her career. She lowered her goals against average to 1.12.
