WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College’s Su-Lin Del Guercio (Peddie School/Parsippany, N.J.) switched from midfield to defense this year and the move paid off in her becoming a New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference selection Thursday.

Del Guercio, a sophomore, was one of three defenders on the second team. She was one of just five sophomores selected to the 22-player first and second teams.

Del Guercio moved to the back along with teammate Lexi Bohonnon to help bolster Colby’s defense. The Mules posted shutouts in four of the first five games of the season. Colby allowed 25 goals in 15 games, but the Mules held the opponent to one goal or less in nine games.

The most important shutout of the season was Colby’s 1-0 victory over rival Bates College to secure a New England Small College Athletic Conference playoff bid. The Mules lost in the quarterfinal round of NESCAC play to eventual champion Williams College.

Despite playing on defense, Del Guercio was still tied for fifth on Colby (5-9-1) in shots with 10.
