Muto moves on in consolation bracket

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --- Colby College's Katie Muto won her first match in the singles consolation bracket and then lost her second at the Division III Wilson/ITA Women's New England Region Championships at MIT on Friday and Saturday.

Muto had fallen 6-0, 6-1 to Kristin Alotta of Williams College in the singles championship bracket opening round. She then posted a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, (10-6) win against Trinity College's Olivia Merns in her first consolation bracket match. Middlebury's Brittney Faber took a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Muto in the second round of the bracket.

Colby's Audrey Jacobsen lost 6-4, 6-0 to Maile Macleod of Simmons College in the championship bracket and then lost a tough 5-7, 6-3, (10-8) match to Trinity's Kelsey Semrod in the opening round of the consolation bracket.

The Colby doubles team of Katie Brezinski and Tara Davidson battled hard in a 9-7 loss to Vassar College's Nicole Pontee and Joy Backer in the doubles championship bracket. Pontee and Backer were seeded in the 5-8 category. Brezinski and Davidson then fell 8-1 to Middlebury's Tory Aiello and Anna Burke in the doubles consolation bracket.
