Bell, Gravel earn fourths for women's track

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- First-year sprinter Brittney Bell (Poland, Maine) finished in fourth place in the 400-meter dash and teammate Katrina Gravel (Peabody, Mass.) took fourth in the 5,000 meters for the Colby College women at the ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Springfield College on Friday.

Bell, who broke a 23-year-old school record in the 400 earlier this year at the New England Division III Championships with a 57.58 clocking, had a time of 57.78 in Friday's race. Alyssa Corrigan (Wellesley, Mass.), another first-year sprinter, placed 15th for the Mules in 59.72.

Gravel, in a field of 17 runners, had a time of 18:01.60 in taking fourth in the 5,000. Meanwhile, Danielle Sheppard (Kittery, Maine) was tied for 10th in the high jump at 5-2.25.

Colby finished in 18th place out of 51 scoring teams with 15 points.
