Colby softball earns split on final day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. --- Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario) had a walk-off RBI single to score Katie Graichen (Arundel, Maine) to help the Colby College softball team take a 5-4 win over University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday.
 
The Mules finished their Florida trip at 2-8 overall with a 5-4 against Frosburg State. Colby lost three one-run games during the week.
 
The Mules had three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning against UW-Superior. Carolyn Bennett (Scarborough, Maine) had a one-out single, moved to second on a single by Meaghan Lewia (Wells, Maine), and both runners moved up on a sacrifice by Lauren Becker (Falls Church, Va.). Graichen followed with a two-run double and Wheeler had her big hit moments later.
 
Graichen finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Bennett and Wheeler both had two hits, while Lewia scored twice and had one hit. Colby first-year pitcher Megan Michie (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) went the distance for the Mules.
 
Colby scored twice in the top of the seventh inning in the second game. Erin Caputo (Sayville, N.Y.) had a two-run single to score Becker and Graichen, who finished with one hit, two runs, one walk, and one hit batter. Lewia also scored and had one run, while Aimee Polimeno (North Woodstock, N.H.) had the other run.
