CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Colby College softball team is off to a 2-2 start to the season after earning a 9-8 victory over Kalamazoo College and a 12-7 win against Houghton College in non-conference play Monday in Florida.
Colby started the day by falling 7-2 to University of Chicago in a game that was started on Sunday. The Mules fell 6-5 to Middlebury College on Sunday morning and then had their afternoon game with Chicago postponed in the third inning because of inclement weather.
Aimee Polimeno threw 6.1 innings to earn the victory against Kalamazoo, while Megan Michie came on to pick up the save for Colby.
Meaghan Lewia had a triple among her two hits, scored twice, and drove in one run. Brianne Wheeler also had two hits and drove in one run, while Lauren Becker had a triple.
In the Houghton game, Lewia stayed hot with a home run among her two hits, two walks, three stolen bases, and three RBI. Carylanne Wolfington, Emily Schatz, and Lindsay Peterson all had two hits for the Mules. All three players had one double. Wolfington scored a pair of runs, Peterson drove in two runs and scored twice, and Schatz had one RBI.
Becker earned the win in the second game after coming on in relief to pitch the final five innings.
Colby plays two more games on Tuesday, starting with St. Catharine's at 1 p.m. and then D'Youville at 3 p.m.
