Softball earns split with Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. –- Aimee Polimeno (Woodstock, N.H.) earned the victory and Lindsay Peterson (Fairfield, Conn.) had a big two-run double for the Colby College softball team in a 4-3 win over Trinity College in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday in NESCAC East play.
The Mules, who fell 7-0 in the second game, won two of three against Trinity in moving to 12-20 overall and 2-10 in the league. Trinity is 13-18 overall and 3-9 in the league.
Colby used a four-run sixth inning to break a scoreless tie, and held off the Bantams' comeback attempt of three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Peterson highlighted the Colby sixth with the double, while sophomore righty Polimeno earned the win with 6.2 innings pitched, six hits allowed, three walks, and three strikeouts. First-year right-hander Megan Michie (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) retired Abby Ostrom on a pop-up to register Colby’s first save of the season.
Senior Lindsay Gibbons (Basking Ridge, N.J.) tossed a one-hit shutout with no walks and a strikeout to lead Trinity in the second game.
