Volleyball loses on road to Maine Maritime

CASTINE, Maine --- Emily Varni had team-highs of 19 defensive digs and five service aces for the Colby College volleyball team in a 3-1 loss at Maine Maritime Academy in non-conference play Tuesday.
The Mules (10-13 overall) fell 25-16, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22.
Kate Pleasants had 28 assists, eight digs, and four aces for the Mules. Caitlin Burchill led the way in kills with nine and had eight digs, while Maggie Taylor had eight kills, 11 digs, and two aces. The Mules also received six kills, three blocks, and two aces by Kate Bellerose and had five kills, three blocks, and two aces by Mackie Sewall.
Colby will close out the regular season with two NESCAC matches Saturday at Bates College. The Mules play Wesleyan University in a huge match at 11 a.m. and then face Trinity College at 1:30 p.m. Colby is 2-6 in the conference, while Wesleyan is 1-6 heading into Friday's match against Bowdoin College. The winner has a good chance to earn a NESCAC playoff spot.
