Volleyball beats Wesleyan, makes NESCAC playoffs

LEWISTON, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team is heading back to the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships after pulling out the biggest victory of the season in a 3-1 win over Wesleyan University on Saturday at Bates College.
The Mules (11-14 overall, 3-7 NESCAC) will be the eighth seed and take on top-seeded Bowdoin College on Friday at 5 p.m. at Bowdoin.
Colby needed the win over Wesleyan to clinch a playoff spot and did the job with a 25-21, 23-25, 25-13, 25-22 win. The Mules fell later in the day to Trinity College by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) score.
Maggie Taylor had 11 kills, 11 defensive digs, and three blocks in the victory over the Cardinals. Mackie Sewall also had 11 kills, Caitlin Burchill finished with 10 kills and 11 digs, Kate Pleasants added 33 assists and six digs, Emily Varni had a team-high five service aces (no errors) and eight digs, Kate Bellerose finished with four aces, and Lily Kramlich-Taylor had six kills and five blocks.
In the Trinity match, Pleasants had 19 digs and eight assists to lead the Mules. Varnit finished with 18 digs, Burchill had a team-high seven kills and eight digs, Taylor had six kills and eight digs, and Kramlich-Taylor finished with six kills.
