Volleyball ends season with NESCAC playoff loss

BRUNSWICK, Maine --- Caitlin Burchill ended a fine career with 10 kills and 10 defensive digs for the eighth-seeded Colby College volleyball team in a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Bowdoin College at Morrell Gymnasium on Friday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game.
The Mules end the season at 11-15, while the Polar Bears are 24-2 and are safely into the NESCAC semifinals on Saturday.
Burchill finished her career with 1,119 digs and 656 kills. Fellow senior co-captain Mackie Sewall also played her final match and had 367 kills and 125 blocks in three years.
Maggie Taylor added six kills and 14 digs in the match against Bowdoin. Emily Varni had 16 digs, Kate Pleasants added 18 assists and 10 digs, and Kate Bellerose and Lily Kramlich-Taylor each had five kils. Pleasants has 1,110 career assists in two seasons.
Melissa Haskell placed Bowdoin with 14 kills.
