Volleyball fights hard in tough loss to Amherst

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Maggie Taylor had 15 kills, 11 defensive digs, and did not make an error in 37 return of serves for the Colby College volleyball team in a 3-2 setback to Amherst College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.
 
Caitlin Burchill added 13 kills and 24 digs, while Kate Pleasants finished with 46 assists and 15 digs. The Mules (7-10 overall, 2-5 NESCAC) received nine kills apiece from Kate Bellerose, Lily Kramlich-Taylor, and Mackie Sewall in a balanced team effort. Bellerose also finished with seven blocks.
 
KC Kanoff led Amherst with 21 kills and teammate Cristy Meier finished with 18 kills.
 
Colby will play against Middlebury College on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in another league game. Amherst moved to 14-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Jeffs will play Bowdoin College at 11 a.m. Saturday and then take on Bates College at 1:30 p.m.
