2012 season highlights: Varni finished her career with 1,137 defensive digs, 170 service aces, 158 assists, and 86 kills. A co-captain, Emily ranked first in the NESCAC in conference only aces per set (0.70) and was third overall (0.59). She also was second in the league in conference only digs per set (4.65) and was fourth overall (4.34). Varni was named the team's Best Defensive Player for the second straight year. She was on the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team. 2011 season highlights: Emily was second in the NESCAC in service aces per set (0.57) and 11th in digs per set (3.71). She led the team with 338 defensive digs and 52 service aces. Varni has 691 digs and 109 aces in three years. 2010 season highlights: Varni missed time due to injury and was named to the NESCAC All-Academic Team. She was second on the team in receiving percentage (.936), third in service aces (27) and added 150 digs and 39 kills. 2009 season highlights: Emily was first on the Mules in serve percentage (.945), second in service aces (36), second in assists (106), and third in defensive digs (245). Despite having limited experience at setter, Varni had to play the position for a few matches. At Colby: Emily majored in International Studies and Anthropology...she was a Colby Cares About Kids mentor, a member of the Colby Volunteer Center, and a member of the Italian Club...was an intern at Discovery Communications and had a marketing internship at the Oprah Winfrey Network. Before Colby: Emily played volleyball at Windward School.. named first team all-league...a member of the Senior Honors Society.
