Women's basketball falls to No. 8 Tufts

WATERVILLE, Maine --- After falling behind 5-0 to start the game, eighth-ranked Tufts University scored the next 14 points to go ahead for good in a 51-37 win over Colby College in NESCAC women's basketball Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Tufts is 15-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Mules fell to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Hannah Foley was the lone Jumbo in double figures with 12 points. Kate Barnosky added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Hayley Kanner finished with nine points and three blocked shots. Ali Rocchi also had eight points for Tufts, which shot 48 percent (21-44) from the field.

Brooke Chandor had a double-double for Colby with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Jacky McLaughlin added eight points and four assists.

The Mules took a 5-0 lead to start the game and held Tufts without a point for the opening 3:32 of the contest. Barnosky had six points and an assist in the Jumbos' 14-0 run. The Mules got as close as seven points (21-14) with 6:37 to intermission, but Tufts used an 11-3 run to take a 32-17 margin at the break.

The Jumbos took their biggest lead of the game at 36-19 with 17:06 to play. However, the Mules battled back with an 8-0 run over the next seven minutes to cut the margin to 36-27 with 10:10 to go. After a Jumbo timeout, Tufts scored the next four points to go back up by 13.

The Mules managed to cut the deficit to nine points at 43-34 with just four minutes to play. The Jumbos again responded and used an 8-0 run to put the contest away.
