Women's basketball coasts past UMPI, 70-33

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) had a game-high 15 points and Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) showed her outside shooting form with a 4-for-4 effort from 3-point range as the Colby College women's basketball team took a 70-33 non-conference win over University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
 
Colby moves to 11-2 overall, while the Owls fall to 5-10.
 
Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) went over 700 career points (now has 704) and shot 5-for-6 from the field on the way to 14 points for the Mules. Jen Nale (Waterville, Maine) added 11 points for the winners and Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) had nine points, four assists, and picked up her 100th career steal. Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) had a game-high seven assists, while Kelly Potvin (Sherborn, Mass.) had three assists to go along with six points.
 
Mack took just eight 3-point shots in her first three years in a Colby uniform, but has been given the green light to shoot from outside under new head coach Julie Veilleux. Mack has responded by leading the team in 3-point field goal percentage at nearly 42 percent (15-for-36). She made all four of the 3-point shots, two of them from way outside, and finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
 
Colby had a 41-24 rebound advantage, held UMPI to just 29 percent shooting from the field, and had 22 assists on its 25 made field goals.
 
The Mules led 38-17 at halftime and held the Owls to just four points in the first 13 minutes of the second half to go up 65-21.
 
Rashell Saucier (Washburn, Maine) finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two steals for UMPI. Renee Moore (Lisbon, Maine) added eight points.
