Tough first half dooms women's basketball

HARTFORD, Conn. --- The Colby College women's basketball team fought back from a huge deficit in the second half, but ran out of time as Trinity College held on for a 58-50 win in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.

 
Colby fell to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference heading into Saturday's 4 p.m. game at Amherst College. Trinity moved to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.
 
Jen Nale shot 4-for-5 and scored 11 points for the Mules, while Diana Manduca and Desi Smith each had 10 points. Brooke Chandor finished with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Taylor Murtaugh and Hannah Brickley both had 12 points for the Bantams.
 
Trinity opened up a 25-7 lead in the opening half and led 36-18 at intermission. The Bantams pulled away for a 48-26 lead with 15:21 to play in the game, but Colby went on a 16-4 run to cut the margin to 10 points with 7:45 to play. The Mules could not get the lead into single digits until Smith hit a 3-point shot with 1:02 left for the final score.
