Comeback victory for women's basketball over Regis

WESTON, Mass. --- The Colby College women's basketball team fought back from a 16-point first-half deficit behind 19 points from Diana Manduca and 11 from Jen Nale in a 57-52 non-conference win against Regis College on Friday night.

The Mules (5-6 overall) trailed 30-14 in the first half after a Kim Daniels 3-point shot with 4:30 to play. The Mules used a 9-2 run to end the half to only trail 32-23 at the break.

Regis was able to grow the lead to 41-30 with 13:09 to play in the game, but the Mules got back in the game for good with a 14-0 run to go up 44-41. Manduca hit two 3-point shots, Nale had five points, and Jayde Bennett had a 3-point play for the 14 points.

The Pride recovered, though, and went ahead 49-46 when Claire Ramonas hit two free throws with 4:05 to play. Bennett cut the lead to one point with a jumper with 3:09 remaining, Nale hit a pair of free throws with 2:23 left to put the Mules up for good at 50-49, and Manduca nailed a big 3-point shot with 48 seconds left for a 53-49 margin. Nale was 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 23 seconds to seal the win.

Manduca was 5-for-10 from 3-point range as the Mules had a 7-2 advantage in made 3-point shots. Nale was a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line, while Carylanne Wolfington finished with eight points and nine rebounds for the winners. Gabe Donahue added six rebounds and three assists, Bennett had six points and four boards, and Jacky McLaughlin helped out with six steals.

Ramonas had a team-high 13 points for Regis (5-4). Sabree Rodriguez had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Colby was 12-for-14 from the free-throw line to a 10-for-16 effort for Regis, which had a 44-34 rebounding margin.

The Mules open New England Small College Athletic Conference play Sunday with a 4 p.m. home game with Hamilton College.
