WATERVILLE, Maine --- The final home game for Colby College seniors Jayde Bennett, Diana Manduca, and Jacky McLaughlin was a disappointing one after Middlebury College held on for a 52-48 win in NESCAC women's basketball Saturday.

Scarlett Kirk scored a game-high 20 points and Middlebury College hit 3-of-4 from the foul line in the final 16 seconds to pull away.

Middlebury improved to 11-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference, while the Mules fell to 7-14 overall and 1-7 in the league.

The Mules scored four straight points to turn a 47-43 deficit into a tie contest with 3:53 to play. Katie Pett put the Panthers ahead to stay with an inside basket with 2:45 remaining for a 49-47 margin. Neither team could manage a point over the next hectic two-plus minutes. After being fouled with 17.2 seconds to play, Colby's Carylanne Wolfington missed the first shot and made the second to cut the margin to 49-48. Kirk was immediately fouled and made 1-for-2 from the line with 16.3 seconds to go for a 50-48 lead. Diana Manduca missed on a baseline reverse layup with eight seconds left and the Panthers' Laura Lowry was fouled with 6.2 to play. She nailed both free throws for the final points of the game.

Kirk also finished with seven rebounds while shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 8-for-10 from the foul line. Lowry added six points and a game-high five assists, while Pett had a game-high 13 rebounds and scored four points.

Wolfington finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals for Colby. Brooke Chandor added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Manduca had 10 points and four assists.

The Mules led 17-11 with 8:25 to go in the first half, but the Panthers used a 16-8 run the rest of the way to take a 27-25 margin at intermission. Middlebury never allowed Colby to take a lead in the second half, but the game was tied twice at 43-43 and 47-47.
