WATERVILLE, Maine --- Despite a double-double from Colby College's Desi Smith (Watertown, Wis.), Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) had game-highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds as St. Joseph's College held on for a 67-63 victory over the Mules in non-conference women's basketball Thursday night.

The Monks improve to 5-2 overall, while the Mules fall to 3-5 overall and lost a second straight tight game. Colby fell 80-75 in overtime on Wednesday to Bates College.

Cahill used her height advantage to get to the foul line, shooting a solid 8-for-11. She pulled down eight offensive rebounds and also had both of the Monks' blocked shots.

Smith led the way with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds (8 offensive) for the Mules.

Smith gave Colby its last lead of the game at 57-56 with an inside basket with 4:29 to play. Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine) answered for the Monks to give St. Joseph's the lead for good.

With the Monks leading 63-59, Colby got a basket from Smith with 1:21 left to cut the margin to two points. After Cahill hit one free throw, the Mules' Gabe Donahue (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) hit a baseline jumper with 34 seconds left to cut the margin to 64-63.

Colby had a chance for the win when St. Joseph's missed two free throws with 14 seconds left. However, the Mules committed a turnover and Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) hit 1-for-2 from the foul line with four seconds left for a 65-63 lead. Colby was called for a five-second call on the inbounds play, and the Monks' Mackenzie Dufour (Augusta, Maine) nailed two free throws to seal the victory.

Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine) added 15 points and six rebounds for the Monks. Dufour finished with seven points, while Hendrix had six assists, five rebounds, and four points.

Mia Diplock (Augusta, Maine) had 12 points and three assists for the Mules. Donahue had nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Appalonia Tankersley (Andover, Mass.) had eight points and five rebounds.
