WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College goaltender Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario) and the Mules' defense shut out University of Southern Maine for the second time this season after taking a 2-0 victory over the Huskies in non-conference women's hockey Saturday night at Alfond Rink.

The Mules (3-4-1 overall) took a 3-0 win at Southern Maine earlier this season. The Huskies also have a 3-4-1 overall record.

The goalies and defenses both shined on Saturday. Wheeler made 34 saves for her second shutout of the season. USM keeper Liz Bergstrom (Chanhassen, Minn.) stopped 31 shots and allowed just one goal on the power play.

Colby's Marissa Simmons knocked in that power play goal at 15:14 of the first period off assists from Ally Kane (Montpelier, Vt.) and Samantha Slotnick (Canterbury, Conn.).

Both teams could not manage a goal until Meredith Reynolds (Marion, Mass.) notched an empty net score with just three seconds remaining.
