Fischer, Dewhirst lead women's hockey to win

NEWPORT, R.I. --- Maddie Dewhirst scored her first two collegiate goals and assisted on the game-winning score by teammate Natalie Fischer as the Colby College women's hockey team held on for a 3-2 non-conference win against Salve Regina University on Saturday night.

The Mules, now 4-5 overall, went ahead 2-0 on goals by Dewhirst and took that lead into the third period. Salve Regina tied the game at 2-2 in the first five minutes of the final period on two power play goals, but Fischer scored at 12:54 on the power play off a pass from Dewhirst.
 
Dewhirst is up to two goals and three assists on the season in her first year with the Mules. Fischer has three goals and one assist.

Brianne Wheeler made 15 of her 32 saves in the final period for Colby. The two teams combined for 14 penalties and three power play goals.

The Mules are now off until hosting Amherst College on Friday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m.
