WATERVILLE, Maine --- Despite a 45-29 shot advantage for Colby College, Kristen Connors (Weymouth, Mass.) made 44 saves and Sam Hippern (Dover, N.H.) had one goal and one assist as New England College held on for a 2-1 win over the Mules in non-conference women's hockey Friday at Alfond Rink.
The Pilgrims improve to 3-5-1 overall, while Colby falls to 2-4-1.
In a first period with a combined 32 shots, New England College scored two goals in a span of 28 seconds to get all the scoring it would need. Kaleigh Costello (Hudson, N.H.) tallied at 16:24 off an assist from Hippern, who then scored at 16:52 off passes from Madyson Moore (Dubuque, Iowa) and Kate Kellar (Cheshire, Mass.).
Conners had 16 saves in the first period, added 13 more in the second, and had 15 to close out the game in the final period.
Colby first-year Jackie Tavella (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had her first collegiate goal off the power play at 13:52 of the second period. Natalie Fischer (Freeland, Md.) and Annie Papadellis (Hopkinton, Mass.) had assists.
Grace Dickinson (Northfield, Ill.) had her first start of the season and made 27 saves for Colby.
