MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Colby College women's hockey team received 28 saves from Brianne Wheeler in a 5-0 loss at Saint Anselm College on Tuesday night.
The Mules fall to 4-14-2 overall, while Saint Anselm moves to 16-6.
Hawk goalie Amy Zappen had her third shutout in a row by stopping all 17 Colby shots. Saint Anselm plays tough on its home ice, not allowing a goal in the last 304 minutes, 22 seconds.
Hawk forward Rosemarie Giarrusso scored the first goal of the game at 9:13 of the first period to open the scoring for either side. Saint Anselm defender Angela Zevnik fired the puck on net from the right point where it was knocked down in front in a mass of bodies. After several shots on goal by the Hawks, the puck trickled out near the left post where a crashing Giarrusso forced home the rebound for her 10th goal of the season.
Bridget Sylvester scored her second goal of the season at 2:26 of the middle stanza, lifting the Hawks to a 2-0 lead. Skating down behind the cage, defender Molly Corl flipped a quick feed out in front of the net to Sylvester, skating from right to left. A quick flick of the wrist by Sylvester on the backhand beat Wheeler for the score.

Giarrusso struck again at 11:36 of the second period, adding an insurance goal for Saint Anselm near the midpoint of the second period. Defender Sami Tatu initiated the rush out of the Hawks defensive zone by connecting with Picarello, who crept into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1. Her initial shot on goal was turned aside by Wheeler, but Giarrusso was following the play from behind and forced home the rebound for her 11th of the season.

Picarello scored her sixth goal of the season shorthanded at 11:54 of the third period. Andi Foss scored the final goal for the Hawks on the power play.
