Women's lacrosse tops Bates, set for playoffs

LEWISTON, Maine --- The sixth-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team prepared for Saturday's NESCAC playoff game by finishing the regular season at 13-1 overall after a 10-8 win at Bates College on Wednesday night.
The Mules are the second seed in the NESCAC tourney and will play host to seventh-seeded Hamilton College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Colby has won 15 straight games at Bill Alfond Field.
The Mules finished the regular season with a 9-1 record in the league. Colby also clinched Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) bragging rights after beating Bowdoin earlier this season to go 2-0 against its Maine rivals.
Lindsey McKenna had three goals to reach 38 this season and added four draw controls for the winners. Kate Pistel had a big all-around game with one goal, one assist, five ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Tess Petesch added two goals and one assist for Colby, while Sara Miller and Alex Mintz both had one goal and one assist. Claire Donegan finished with one goal, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Katie Griffin had the other goal for Colby, which trailed 5-4 at halftime.

Colby and Bates exchanged the first four goals of the second half and the Bobcats still led 7-6 with 12:36 remaining. Pistel tied the game at 7-7 with 11:08 left and Donegan scored unassisted to put Colby up for good at 8-7 just 12 seconds after Pistel's goal. McKenna and Mitz finished off a four-goal scoring run to push the lead to 10-7 with 4:25 to go.
