Women's Outdoor Track—Program Overview

In its 30-year history the Colby women’s track and field team has experienced great success, producing 64 All-Americans and 114 NCAA national qualifiers. The team, whose roster typically numbers 35 to 55 members, competes in 21 events and has a coaching staff of seven led by Deb Aitken.

The 2008 indoor squad enjoyed a very successful season, placing ninth at the New England Division III Championships. The distance medley relay team of Liz Petit '08, Laura Pomponi '08, Emma Linhard '11, and Anna King '08 finished an impressive seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships, earning All-America honors for all four women.

King earned All-America honors in the outdoor season by placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the national meet, where she broke her own school record with a time of 10:27.56.

The outdoor team won the Fitchburg Invitational and placed second at the Aloha Relays held at Bowdoin. The team went on to place fifth at the NESCAC Championships and eighth at the New England Division III Championships.

Three team members qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet. King had her runner-up finish in the steeplechase, Cassi Knight set a sophomore record in the steeplechase and played fifth to earn All-America honors along with King. Linhard placed 14th in the 1,500-meter run.

The 2008-09 team will rely on returning letter winners and a large and talented group of first-year students to maintain Colby’s competitive edge. Training emphasizes team balance and the individual development of each team member. Each season, individual as well as team goals are made, and plans are established to ensure that all attainable goals are reached.
